Special Deputy Clerk's are ambassadors for
the Clerk's Office. They also provide the general public with a
first hand (insider) report on how well we are doing our jobs.
They also provide a valuable public service to people who just
hate electronically recorded messages.
What roles do volunteers play in the
daily operation of the Clerk's Office?
Special Deputy Clerks (SDCs) are an
invaluable part of the staff of the Clerk of Circuit Court. They
staff the Clerks Office's switchboard located in the lobby of
the Constitutional Office Building in the Martin County
Courthouse Complex. They are responsible for answering the
Clerk's telephones and providing information on where to go for
governmental and community services.
In some instances, Special Deputies do not
feel comfortable with direct public contact or they may want to
pursue a special interest. In that case they are assigned to a
department and report to the department head. In addition to
staffing the phones, SDCs have successfully served in: the
Circuit Court Civil Division, Circuit Court Juvenile Division,
County Court Civil Division (Small Claims), Accounting,
Commission Records, the County Court Criminal Division and as
court interpreters.
